Olu nne m is a book about how a little girl born in the United States is identifying with her ethnicity through a language she inherited from her parents. Ugonma, the girl in question, has been learning her native tongue through her mother’s tongue since she was 18-months-old. The book narrates how her mother is the driving force in making sure the Igbo language is her first language. According to Ugonma, her mother’s voice makes learning Igbo a lot easier. Her smooth, calm voice helped peak her interest and has kept her interest ever since. She hopes to continue learning about her heritage through her parents and would love to pass on the knowledge she’s gained to her younger siblings.
